LNER using Diesel north of Newcastle. - Posted: July 4, 2022 - 8:16 PM Quote and reply
I caught 09.00 York to Edinburgh yesterday with 800203+801103 which ran Diesel only from Berwick to Dunbar and just south of St Germans xing then back to electric. I assume this is booked as we didnt loose much time.
Berwick to Lamberton Toll was interesting took 4.22 passed at 52mph!!. Max was 95 just before Oxwellmains. Berwick to Dunbar was 25.23.

Had similar southbound last year. Were you closely following an all-electric LNER or Lumo? My trip was on a bimode 801, through service from Aberdeen. Dep EDB 10 mins after an electric LNER and so we switched to diesel for the middle bit to reduce draw on the OHLE.

Thanks for reply
According to RTT the previous Electric Train was 09.59 Berwick to Edinburgh which had arrived in Edinburgh at 10.47 before we left.

Just a thought is it now cheaper to run in Diesel Mode than pay Network Rail Electric Charges if you can still keep time???
