I have read that Australia was originally laid out with mileposts, but in general have converted to the metric system.

So my question is 'Are there now KM posts on routes', or are mph still the standard.

I am off on the Indian-Pacific, spending time in Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane if this info helps.

This is the link to ARTC Master Plan, in the UK we call them WTT. This covers ARTC (Federal railways which are standard Gauge. (does include federal railways ARTC in New South Wales in which all railways are Standard Gauge.) Sorry cannot remember about distance posts. Have a good trip.

So far I have travelled around Perth, Adelaide and Cairns. All have been posted in kilometers
