100+ MPH RUNS - Posted: September 1, 2012 - 8:35 PM Quote and reply
Thanks to Jeremy Harthill's work in extracting 100+mph runs presumably from the Public Timetables. I have been looking at the Working Timetables (now on line)
WEST COAST
The xx07 trains from Euston to Stafford are mostly 75 minutes as per the public timetable. The 0930 Euston to Glasgow first stop Warrington Bank Quay is 103½ minutes in the WTT at an average speed of 105.5 mph. The 1729½ Crewe to Watford Jn WTT times is 77 minutes at an average of 108.9mph. Looking at the West Coast WTT there is consistency in times. The xx30 Euston to Glasgow are mostly 103½ minutes (first stop Warrington BQ), just a few a 2-3 minutes longer. The xx07 Euston to Stafford are mostly 75 minutes.
EAST COAST
The fixed interval East Coast timetable is not as fixed or consistant as the West Coast. e.g.
King's Cross to York trains 109 to 113 minutes
as follows KX departures 0800 = 110 minutes, 1000 = 112 minutes, 1100 = 109 minutes, 1200 = 112 minutes, 1400 = 111 minutes, 1500 = 110½ minutes, 1600 = 111 minutes, 1700 = 113 minutes, 1800 = 107½ minutes (105.2 mph), 1900 = 110 minutes, 2000 = 110 minutes.The 1855 York to Stevenage shown as the fastest in 88 minutes but in the WTT is allowed 88½ minutes = 109.1 mph but the fastest are some of the Leeds to KX trains on the Grantham to Stevenage section with a number of trains completing this section in 41½ minutes at 112.6 mph ( 1018 & 1118 departures), with no added time. Is this the fastest in the U.K.
