AZUMA tackles Cross Gates Bank. - Posted: June 2, 2019 - 9:10 PM Quote and reply
The diverted 0952 Leeds-Kings Cross was an AZUMA today so the first opportunity to tackle some gradients on diesel power. The 0948 to Hull was 90 secs late but we were 30 secs down. There was a 5 mph fall from 60 to 55 easing as the power went off briefly after Osmondthorpe probably due to the Hull as it was no rbt. Cross Gates passed in 6m 12 at 67 and speed about 71-72 at the end of the 1/158 with about 75 attained at the start of the Garforth level. 89 quickly reached before slowing for Micklefield (10m 07). Sigs after Gascoigne Wood and a good handover to electric at Hambleton with very little loss of speed. 124 mph sustained on to Doncaster where we were stopped outside and took 35m 18 overall.

The 1616 was also supposed to be an AZUMA but it followed a XC out of Leeds. Its inward working took 13.75 mins for the 9.75 miles from Gas Wood to Xgates without, seemingly, anything in its way.

The same workings should be repeated next Sunday.
